Together these procedures can vastly improve your home's operating efficiency and Indoor Air Quality, commonly referred to as IAQ. In April 2011, Austin City Council approved a series of amendments to the Energy Conservation Audit and Disclosure (ECAD) ordinance, Austin City Code, Chapter 6-7, to improve the energy efficiency of Austin homes and buildings that receive electricity from Austin Energy. View their Guide for Homebuyers, Homesellers, and Homeowners (pdf) to learn which Austin Energy incentives can help homeowners meet ECAD requirements. These amendments affected both home buyers and sellers significantly. For example, as early as 2006 radiant barrier was being considered by Austin City Council as a building code requirement for Austin residents. Recently the council mandated that any single family home built after 2015 be 'Zero Energy Capable'. So whether you've heard of this term or not, you will soon if you live in Austin. Stay tuned for Part 2 where we 'batt' the term "Attic Insulation" around, and break down the science behind Weatherization.
